Precious Things/Cosas Preciosas

I was asked by my Branch President to speak in our Sacrament Meeting last Sunday and afterwards one of our sweet young members asked if I was going to share it on my blog. To be honest I had not thought about it. She asked, because as a young mother she had not been able to hear the whole talk, due to unavoidable motherly duties!!! I do remember those days! So I promised her I would give it some thought and if I didn't put it on my blog would  make her a copy. Well, after much thought and prayer you can see that I feel inclined to share it with you all, BUT I am going to do it in shorter sections that may take anywhere from 5 to 7 weeks, depending on how I feel about dividing it. This also helps me out on time because with soccer season starting, well, my time is not always my own...so, thanks, dear friend, for the suggestion and here is, more or less, the first part!
Have you ever stopped to consider what are the most precious things in your life? Maybe you have a long list or maybe just a few, but at least consider your top 3 most precious things. Now as you think on those things, what, if anything, could make you give them up?
May I share with you two short episodes from scripture about giving up precious things and, please, consider how you would feel if you were these people.
The first one is taken from the Holy Bible in the book of Genesis chapter 22 verse 2: "And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son, Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
The second one is taken from the Bible as well, in the book of Mark chapter 12 verses 41-44: "And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his  disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living."
Again, consider your most precious things! Your only son or another loved one? All of your living? Your favorite pet? May you ponder this week on what is truly precious in your life and what, if anything, could make you give them up! Have a great week! God bless!
