Can't! Can!
Going to take another short break from my "scripture favorites" for a bit; at least for today! I have had the thought a lot lately of "can't and can"!! And what do I mean by that? Well, basically, how we talk to ourselves about things that we do! Are you an "I can't do that!" person or an "I can do that!" person. I don't think any of us are completely one way or the other because it has a lot to do with what we are doing! But I also know that a lot of times we get hung up focusing on our "can'ts" instead of our "cans"!! (And I am not talking about soda pop cans!!😄) I am talking about how we get so hung up on focusing on all the things we can't do that we forget to count the things that we can! And what effect does that have on our attitudes and our emotions? Not a good one for sure!! I am very aware that it is not easy to fight the "can'ts" in our lives! I am one that can really get down on me for all the things I can't do or I can't finish or I can't even get started on!! And the end result is that I get very discouraged and down on me, to the point of depression sometimes, and just wanting to throw in the towel and quit trying! And that does me no good! Nor does it do any of us any good!! In fact, it deters us from even getting done the things we can! So how can we deal with this?
Well, let's focus on what we CAN do instead! Easier said than done, I know, but it is possible to do it! Let's say you have a huge list of things you need to do. There is no way you, or anyone else, can do that list in one big leap. So list them by the time you have, the effort it will take, and/or how pressing it is! Then break each job into steps! For example, cleaning the kitchen: 1) do the dishes; 2) wipe everything off; 3) sweep the floor; 4) mop the floor; 5) Look around and make sure each step got done! And you did it! Some jobs will have more steps and take longer! Some jobs are just a one time thing, like get out of bed by 6 AM😁. And, it is good, to get out of bed in order to start the jobs. This listing the jobs or things you need to do in a specific "need" order will always work! Then the step by step plan backs it up and works just as well.
So let's all focus more positively on the things we can do, even if it is one step at a time instead of just thinking we can't do it! Because given the time, the effort, and the planning, we CAN eventually do all the things we need to, even those things we can't!!!
