Slumpty Dumpty Do
Do you ever feel yourself falling into a slump? Or maybe you have been there for a while and just haven't figured how to pull out of it. We all go through those times. And they are probably different for each of us because we all handle things differently! And in no way are they fun and the struggle to get out of them can be tough! And, again, getting out of it may be different for each one of us, so what do we do?
I am no expert psychologist, but from my own point of view I have been in slump after slump and sometimes they have been easier to get out of than other times. I would just like to share a few things I do and then perhaps a little unprofessional counsel.
The first thing I ALWAYS do is pray . . . a lot!! Does that 100% work right off? No! But it gives me the assurance that I have asked the most powerful being in the universe to help me find my way out. There have been times that it has happened quickly, but generally it takes time. After praying I will try to see all the good things in my life! Many times I sing the song "Count Your Many Blessings!" and then to that same tune sing my many blessings aloud. It does help to focus on your blessings and the good things around you and in your life! You don't have to sing them, but speaking of singing, I have noticed that many different songs can help: sometimes a "get in tune with the Lord" song, other times a song with great rhythm to dance to, other times a song I remember from a musical I was in and so on. I have found that positive uplifting music of any kind can truly help as well. Going for a walk in nature and observing the skies, trees, animals, people, etc. I can usually read to get out of a slump, but then I could be a 24/7 reader! But favorite scriptures or uplifting books are always good. I also go over scriptures I have memorized or read my Patriarchal Blessing. And always you can call that special person that will listen to you!
So there are many things to help us pull ourselves out of the slump, but it is always better to do as the scripture says, "Be prepared!" So when you aren't in a slump take the time to prepare by making a list of your blessings, the good things in you and around you. Keep it where you can reach it when needed! Memorize scriptures! Memorize good songs! Make a list of people you know will listen to you and help out. Maybe even combine going for a walk with them and visiting as you walk! Think of good things that you enjoy doing that are positive and uplifting. And if you do all of this ahead of time, you have prepared and you can be more ready to deal with it!
We also need to remember that sometimes it will take longer than other times to pull out of it. If we have prepared things to help us then we continue to pray and endure with faith knowing that at some point we will prove to the Lord that we are going to keep trying to get out of the dandy "Slumpty Dumpty Do" and He will pull through with us. And that is one reason to also stay focused on the good because sometimes it is just a little thing that starts to pull us out and so we can't ignore even the smallest feeling of positivity. After all, as the scripture says, "By small and simple things are great things brought to pass!" So get your small and simple lists organized so you are prepared to keep moving through life "slumpty dumpty do" time and all!!!
