Atheist Statement #2

The second statement made in this, I guess you could say, atheist belief list, is "Sin is a made up, theological, social structure. It does not exist." Hmmmm! Where to start is my big question here, but the first thoughts that came to me were: So according to this thought anything someone chooses to do is okay? There is no good or bad nor right or wrong in life. Anyone can to whatever they like and it doesn't matter. If there are no rules to distinguish between good and bad. . .  well, if they don't exist then as a parent I can let my son beat up your son just because he wants to. Or my granddaughter can steal your granddaughter's new bike because she wants it. Without a set of rules to help us see good uplifting acts compared to selfish, small-minded, downright mean acts, how are we to survive? And by the way, those selfish, small-minded, downright mean acts are what are known as "sin".  Nor are these things it refers to made up ideas. Sadly they happen too often and people get hurt by them in more ways than one. History will back this up big time!!! Dictionary says, "wrongdoing of any kind; immoral act. Lying, stealing, dishonestly, and cruelty are sins." That definition does not sound like a theological statement. There is no mention of  God in that definition. There IS, of course, social structure! To exist in this life there has to be social structure! Even animals have rules in their groups that they teach to their young. Should we do less than  the animals on this earth? We DO have a higher more complex way to think, see and understand than animals do, so, yes we need to see the distinction between good and bad acts in this life.

So may I just finish up by saying that "sin" is not made up. Sin is just a word used to explain in one word wrong acts that hurt oneself and others!!!  It does not HAVE to have anything to do with theology, but it can!!! And again, it is not a made up social structure because there has to be a social structure of rules to follow to make life possible. In reality IF everyone treated others as they wanted to be treated half the rules in existence would not be necessary, but we humans tend to learn less slowly sometimes than even the animal kingdom and its rules!!! But "sin" does exist because many humans choose to live lives of egotistical "take what I want" no matter who it hurts and so on.

Again, I am a tried and true believer in God and His laws and rules, but I have friends who do not believe in God and yet they obey laws and rules as well!! Any thinking reasoning person knows that in order to survive in this life, we have to obey laws and rules and not just run helter-skelter and do whatever we want. BUT at the same time, we are seeing more and more that many people are doing just that and it is making it a lot harder to feel safe in this world!
