Does Age Count!?

I shared a scripture this morning in my daily Sunday scripture share that I thought I would like to add a bit more thought to. The scripture was from the Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 7:8 "And now I, Nephi, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, therefore I spake unto them, saying, yea, even unto Laman and unto Lemuel: Behold ye are mine elder brethren, and how is it that ye are so hard in your hearts, and so blind in your minds, that ye have need that I, your younger brother, should speak unto you, yea, and set an example for you?"

There is a lot that could be said about this scripture, but I just wanted to focus on what I made a slight comment about after sharing this scripture this morning. Nephi is the younger brother, but there are many instances in the scriptures (and in life all around us) that the younger ones do have to be the example, set us right, remind us to do and be better. Sometimes it is the oldest child in a family who takes the responsibility to lead the family and sometimes it is the middle child and sometimes the youngest.

I have read this scripture many times, but for some reason the age thing hit me today. It should not matter about our age. Each of us, no matter where we fit age-wise in our family or in society, should set a good example for all others around us. As I commented on my scripture thought this morning: There are times that a child leads us through their example and even at times through their words! In Isaiah 11:6 it even says "and a little child shall lead them."

I guess the point I want to make is that each of us, no matter our age, has a right and the responsibility to live a life that helps others to become better as we ourselves strive to become better. So age may count in some things, but in living a righteous and good example and helping  others in any way we can, there is no age limit!!!
