A Salute to Fathers
Since it is Father's Day, I thought I would take just a moment and wish all the Father's out there a "Happy Father's Day", but even more than that I would like to personally express gratitude to some special fathers in my life.
First and foremost, our Heavenly Father, who has made all of this life possible. Sometimes this life is hard and we struggle, but He has given us the chance to come here, make choices, learn and grow! He truly wants us to do those things, that He has taught us, that are necessary for us to return to live with Him again. And He will help us in so many ways if we will just keep trying and not give up.
In my family history, I am sure there are many many good fathers, but I only remember my Grandpas Holt and Nielson and although I did not know them very well, since they died when I was still quite young, I am grateful for what I did know of them personally and for all the wonderful stories shared about them by those who knew them even better than I did.
Also my father taught me so very much. A man with a better work ethic would be hard to find and we, his children, all learned to work through his example. He was honest, sometimes to a fault, if that is possible. He had wise counsel to offer those who sought his help and he was always willing to give a priesthood blessing to those who asked.
I would be remiss if I did not at least express gratitude for the father of my children, for the 5 handsome, loving supporting sons that came from that union. At this point in my life I would be at a total loss without them!
And speaking of those special sons of mine, I am grateful that they, too, have the opportunity to be fathers. They have blessed me with some very special and wonderful grandchildren and I am so grateful for each and every one of them! (I am also thankful for the mothers of my grandchildren!)
Fathers are an important part of a child's life and continue to be so as we get older. May we all take a few moments to recognize the good things our fathers have done for us in our lives! And may we each build on that good and move forward in order to return to the Father that made this all possible!!!
