Old Testament Favorite!
Probably my favorite person in the Old Testament is Ruth! There has just always been something about her and her life that has meant so much to me. She chose to marry Namoi's son and become a part of the family as well as the religion practiced by the family; which was not what she had been raised with. Then when her husband dies she chooses, again, to stay with her mother-in-law. I guess I relate to the leaving your own family a bit because I was willing to do that when I married! I was willing to spend the rest of my life in Spain with my husband over staying with my family. But he, too, was willing to leave his family and so I was saved from doing that. It was hard in lots of ways, but I am so grateful that I was blessed to be close to my family, although I love his family also. So I can totally relate to Ruth in that sense. But the thing that really impresses me about her is that, in choosing what she did, she put the true worship of God first in her life. She also was willing to learn a whole new culture and take care of her mother-in-law. Ruth was a very strong, courageous, and caring woman. And by her choices she was tried, tested, and finally blessed. I hope I can be as strong as she was through my trials in life.
I just do so much appreciate what the people and circumstances they had to deal with in scriptures, history, etc., can teach us. And if we will just try to learn from them then we won't have to make the same mistakes over and over and over again!!
